- Title
SIR JOHN KERR AND THE DISMISSAL - THE TRUTH OF THE PALACE LETTERS.
- Authors
BRAMSTON, TROY
- Abstract
Kerr is two-faced: publicly friendly with Whitlam and Fraser whileprivately critical of them to Charteris. After the dismissal, Kerr confirmed to Charteris that he did not inform the Palace ofwhat he planned to do (11 November 1975) And Charteris thanked Kerr for notgiving the Palace advance notice of his dismissal (17 November 1975). Let me begin by thanking Gerard and Anne Henderson for inviting me and Paul Kellyhere today to talk about our new book, The Truth of the Palace Letters: Deceit,Ambush and Dismissal in 1975. Moreover, if Kerr had sought and gained the "royalgreen light" he would have liked nothing better than to have upstaged Whitlam withthe news that the Palace endorsed his dismissal.
