- Abstract
The main reservoir of the Shiga Toxin-Producing Escherichia coli pathotype is cattle, making meat an important vehicle for its transmission to man. In order to characterize the Shiga Toxin-Producing Escherichia coli strains isolated from samples of this food, the phylogenetic classification of the strains was carried out, obtaining that they belonged to group E; Using the REP-PCR technique, a heterogeneous clonal pattern was detected; the MLST technique, on the other hand, identified new Type Sequences for each analyzed strain. No association was found between the characteristics of the meat samples and the strains analyzed.
