- Abstract
This study aims to examine the intra-specific and inter-generic relationship based on morphometry of sagitta otolith of Rasborine fishes i.e., Amblypharyngodon mola, Aspidoparia morar, Barilius bendelisis, Danio rerio, Devario devario, Esomus danricus and Rasbora daniconius. These otolith images were interpreted using image J tool to describe the otolith size (length, breadth, Area and Perimeter). The independent t-test (P>0.05) showed no significant difference between left and right sagittal otolith. The linear regression model showed significant relationship between fish length-otolith length and fish length-otolith breadth of Rasborine fishes. ANOVA (Analysis of variance) was done to establish inter-generic variation among different Genus of Rasborine fish studied. These results showed that the otolith morphometric relationships are helpful tool for predicting the fish size and weight from otoliths, which may be used in food habits and paleontology studies and identification of fish and other fisheries management applications.
