- Abstract
The article discusses the employment of retirement-age professionals in the water utilities industry. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in the united States will increase by 19 million, since 36 million workers are expected to retire by 2014. This may result to the decrease in labor supply in companies such as water utilities, and may hinder corporate growth. It is therefore deemed important to consider retaining professionals at the retirement age. It is suggested that utilities evaluate its current staff and determine which of the retirement-age employees should be retained. These employees can work through a number of ways, such as part-time employment, job sharing, telecommuting or flex-time and contract positions.
