- Title
Why Is Urine Drug Testing Not Used More Often in Practice? bair and krebs Editorial.
- Authors
Bair, Matthew J.; Krebs, Erin E.
- Abstract
The author reflects upon the use of urine drug testing (UDT) as a monitoring tool for screening patients for prescription opioid misuse, abuse, and addiction. An overview of the multiple factors that explain why UDT has not been more widely adopted is presented including the lack of evidence to support its use as an effective opioid monitoring strategy, the challenges of testing methodologies and interpretation of results, and competing clinical demands within a practice.
