- Abstract
The article explores the effect of the 1996 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act to the elderly immigrants in the U.S. It notes that the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act prohibited the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for the elderly immigrants which affected their employment, retirement, and family incomes. It discusses if the changes in early retirement in the U.S. was brought by the implementation of the act. It mentions that the policy was established to be associated with a 3.5 percentage point rise in the employment and a 3.8 percentage point fall in the retirement of elderly immigrants.
