- Title
Carrots and Sticks to Promote Healthy Behaviors: A Policy Update.
- Authors
BLACKSHER, ERIKA
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the promotion of healthy behaviors in the U.S. It discusses the two basic forms of the proposals to promote healthy behaviors. Based on the article, state legislatures are planning or have implemented policies designed to encourage Medicaid beneficiaries to take up health-promoting behaviors and stop health-harming ones. The author asserts that what is well established within public health circles is that typical health promotion policies tend to benefit advantaged groups more than they benefit disadvantaged ones.
