- Title
Re-covering Woman as Religious Subject: Reflections on Jewish Women and Hair-covering.
- Authors
Landau, Melanie
- Abstract
This article demonstrates that like all cultural practices, hair-covering of religious Jewish married women holds multiple layers of meaning. As stated, the nature of the obligation of hair-covering for married women is being debated which centers around the question of whether it is a biblical or rabbinic obligation. Women are mandated by the laws or ervah to dress in certain ways and also prohibit a man from looking at certain parts of a woman in an objectifying way or with an intention to get pleasure.
