- Abstract
Leslie Paul Kozak, a renowned biochemist and molecular biologist known for his research on obesity and energy metabolism, passed away in 2023. He was born in Dauphin, Manitoba, and grew up in a Ukrainian community in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Kozak initially pursued a career in hockey but later became a monk before transitioning to a career in biochemistry. He made significant contributions to the understanding of thermogenesis and the molecular mechanisms of adaptive thermogenesis. Kozak trained numerous postdoctoral fellows and published over 175 manuscripts and book chapters. He is remembered for his competitive spirit, kindhearted personality, and dedication to science.
