- Abstract
The article discusses the use of a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt with portal vein recannulation (TIPS-PVR) in a pediatric patient who had undergone a liver transplant and was experiencing complications from portal vein thrombosis (PVT) and gastrointestinal variceal bleeding. The TIPS-PVR technique involved creating a shunt between the hepatic vein and an intrahepatic portal vein branch using a combination of stent grafts and bare metal stents. The article also highlights the challenges of managing PVT in pediatric patients, including the technical difficulties of reconstructing the portal vein and the need for long-term stent patency. The authors suggest that further research is needed to evaluate the outcomes and effectiveness of TIPS-PVR in pediatric patients.
