- Abstract
The topical use of nonsteroid anti-inflammatory agents is increasing, those more widely used are parahutoxylacethydrolamic acid (Bufexamac), oxyphenbutazone and phenylbutazone. Contact allergy by Bufexamac has been reported in one case and two cases with contact dermatitis to phenylbutazone without reaction to oxyphenbutazone. The explanation is that oxyphenbutazone is a hydroxylated metabolite of phenylbutazone and is the active product. A 67-year-old woman with a post-traumatic ulcer of the right leg was treated with a cream containing oxyphenbutazone.
