The article explores the persistence of twinship in the plays "The Broken Heart," by John Ford and "The Duchess of Malfi," by John Webster. Topics covered include how both plays present the idea that such difference of twins from the general populace persisted well into adult life, and could even exist beyond it, early 17th-century medical ideas on twinship before, during and after birth, and the persistence of twinship in death.
