- Title
INSECTICIDAL SPRAYS FOR THE CONTROL OF WHEAT BULB FLY LARVAE.
- Authors

- Abstract
This article describes experiments over the period 1956-61, on the control of wheat bulb fly larvae after they had invaded the plants, but before they moved from shoot to shoot. The insecticides used were parathion, demeton-methyl, trichlorphon, mevinphos, fenthion, dimethoate, aldrin, dieldrin and Telodrin at various concentrations. The most effective of these was dimethoate sprayed in early March, when all the larvae had hatched and the majority were in their second instar. The use of sprays in the spring is uncertain and more fundamental research is needed before they can be generally recommended as a control measure. Dimethoate, and to a lesser degree trichlorphon, do give some improvement when an unexpected attack occurs on unprotected plants, but they are not nearly so effective as predrilling methods.
