- Abstract
The article discusses the controversy of 1879 regarding the fact that was researcher Carron du Villards was the first to use the probe/needle electrolysis for permanent hair destruction. Probe/needle methods of hair removal remain the historical benchmark for permanent and safe hair removal, because these methods permit the most selective destruction of the tissue responsible for hair growth. Historically, probe/needle hair removal methods have evolved to incorporate contemporary technologies. du Villards appears to deserve credit for being the first to attach a probe/needle to a battery for the purpose of heating the probe/needle and cauterizing the tissue responsible for hair growth researcher Charles E. Michel was the inventor of probe/needle electrolysis.
