- Abstract
"Changing Land: Diaspora Activism and the Irish Land War" by Niall Whelehan explores the role of land ownership and the conditions of tenant farmers and agricultural laborers in shaping internationalism in the late nineteenth century. The book focuses on the Irish Land War from 1879 to 1882 and the spread of Irish Land League and Ladies' Land League chapters to diaspora communities worldwide. Through case studies of individual activists, the author demonstrates the radical side of the Land League campaigns and their participation in overlapping radical movements. The book sheds light on the influence of Land League activists on class and gender inequalities and highlights the legacies of their tactics in twentieth-century working-class activism.
