- Abstract
The article presents a case of Rieger syndrome diagnosed in a premature infant in the early neonatal period in the health care industry in the U.S. Rieger sydrome can significantly alter the morbidity associated with eye and dental abnormalities. The infant was diagnosed to have Rieger syndrome owing to the characteristic umbilical abnormality. The abnormality has been found to be attributed to failure of involution of periumbilical skin. Moreover, analyses reveal that the abnormalities in the syndrome are due to abnormal migration or differentiation of a subset of cells of neural crest origin.
