- Title
Your Case Will Now Be Heard: Sign Language Interpreters as Problematic Accommodations in Legal Interactions.
- Authors
Brunson, Jeremy L.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the study which emphasized the sign language interpreter as problematic accommodations in legal interactions in the U.S. It stated that the sign language interpreter is a person fluent in American Sign Language. The various types of accommodations for people who are deaf range from writing back and forth to real-time captioning to the provision of a sign language interpreter. The interpreter provides guidance to the deaf person although they are not trained to provide legal advice. It is suggested that people must rely on people who have little understanding or interest in the various pieces of legislation that focuses on the subject of accommodations, to successfully get an accommodation.
