- Authors
Fredericks, Bronwyn; White, Nereda
- Abstract
This paper discusses the authors' perspective on academic writing, from their position as Aboriginal academic women. It identifies writing as a site of difficulty for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander academic women, and describes the pressures that they face as they seek to write and publish within the academy. The paper describes a writing skills workshop that the authors developed and facilitated especially for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. The Tiddas Writin' Up Workshop was designed to address the writing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who work in higher education. Through their discussion of the Tiddas workshop, the authors demonstrate that the written word can be part of their toolbox for success.
