- Abstract
The pandemic situation had an adverse impact on the global economy and the global stock markets. India has been no exception to this worldwide phenomenon. However, the performance of the pharmaceutical industry all over the world was the key constituent in the global fight against the pandemic. This has put the pharmaceutical sector in a comparatively better position in comparison to other sectors. As the Government of India is trying hard to position India as the global pharmaceutical hub, investors are upbeat about this sector. This study is based on technical analysis of three selected pharmaceutical stocks in India i.e. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., Divi's Laboratories, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories on the daily adjusted closing prices of the stocks for a period from 1 April 2018 to 30th September 2021 to cover both the prepandemic and pandemic times. Technical analysis is a tool for predicting short term price movements of stocks based on visualization of past prices of the stocks through charts, usually line charts along with certain other charts derived there from. The study has used four technical analysis charts i.e. Relative Strength Index (RSI), Bollinger Bands, Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) and Candlestick Charts for each of the selected three stocks. This study has been aimed at carrying out a comparative analysis of congruency of indications of the four charts for each of the selected three pharmaceutical stocks. The findings of this study will be helpful for investors who wish to have an indication of short term price movements in these three stocks.
