- Abstract
Romances are genuinely Spanish compositions, in which the actions taking place in a society of three cultures, three religions and three worlds are described and celebrated. It is precisely here that every one becomes the «Other» to his cultural opponent. In this paper I intend to analyse the function of the Moorish Knight's discoursive presence facing the Castilian Knights in the romances Abenamar y el Rey Don Juan and Del rey moro que perdió Alhama. I will also compare these romances with the treatment of the Other in Poema de Mio Cid. The consideration of all these poems, written in a borderline zone, leads to the understanding of the poem as a battlefield.
