- Abstract
The global expansion of the Chinese economy has had different repercussions, either in the international capital market or in the flows of world trade. With a new paradigm, and even debate about hegemonic roles of regions (Beckley, 2011). The trade that prevails in Latin America with China has been different throughout history, it has changed if compared to the one shown for the 1990s. Hence the need to conduct research that compares the impact that China can have on the different sectors of the economy of the region. Reprimarization is a term that refers to the return of countries to the primary sector of the economy. Therefore, it is necessary to remember what this macro sector consists of: agricultural, livestock, fishing, mining and forestry activities. The text demonstrates three things, the first of which corresponds to the theoretical discussion about the possible reprimarization and the way in which it can be given. The second is that the reprimarising phenomenon occurs through changes in the productive structure that is accounted for in the GDP itself; and the third is that this phenomenon is reflected in international trade. According to the sample of 20 countries in the region with which the text was being worked on, only Brazil represents one third of Latin American GDP (for 2016, UNSTATS, 2017), Argentina 10%, Chile 5%, Peru 4 %, Ecuador 2% and Uruguay one percent. This block of countries that are being influenced by China in the reprimarising process, represent 55% of the GDP of Latin America.
