- Abstract
The article focuses on the history of the medical aspect of the 1939 film "Gone With the Wind" directed by Victor Fleming. Producer David Selznick and his adviser Wilbur Kurtz are recognized for their efforts to achieve authentic realism by presenting the way doctors prescribed in the American South during the 19th century. The portrayal of Doctor Meade and his role in Civil War-era medicine are discussed.
