The article focuses on a study conducted to investigate the nature of seamounts on the southwestern mid-ridge of the southwest sub-basin (SWSB) of the South China Sea. The bathymetric map compiled with the newest multi-beam data, seismic profile and gravity data were analyzed to find that low-density materials comprise the Longmen Seamount rather than igneous rocks.
