- Abstract
The article discusses the career intentions and electoral performance of the United States House members. Motivation is an important variable that governs the politicians' electoral efforts and degree of electoral success. The examination of retiring House members' electoral performance shows that members who intend to run for higher office increases their electoral support in their last House election while retiring members who do not intend to run for higher experience a decrease in electoral support.
