The article focuses on importance of metafiction in author Leonardo Padura's detective tetralogy "Las cuatro estaciones." Topics discussed include aim to explore the semantic and aesthetic significance of the authorial frame story, including its intertextuality and impact on reader response; role of revolution to force Cuban writers on the island to conceal expressions of their ideas and identity; and focus on self-preserving feeling of superiority.
