- Title
IRONY, LOVE, AND POLITICAL ECONOMY IN JOSÉ ASUNCIÓN SILVA'S DE SOBREMESA.
- Authors
Pérez, Rolando
- Abstract
The article examines the themes or love, irony, and the economy in the novel "De Sobremesa," by Colombian author José Asunción Silva. It argues that this often ignored novel is a mix of imitating French symbolist literature while incorporating 19th century Colombian politics. It compares the novel's protagonist, José Fernández, to other literary characters in books such as "A Modest Proposal" and "1984."
