- Abstract
The article discusses the efficacy of workplace safety precautions in light of a gas explosion incident which occurred on March 1984 which resulted in minor injuries and where government refused to take action against the rig operator Occidental claiming that the incident had occurred due to a design fault. It discusses the matter with reference to the Piper Alpha offshore oil production platform explosion incident which occurred on July 6, 1988 in the North Sea and killed several people.
