- Abstract
This article discusses the impact of the recession on the fee rates of engineering consultants and contractors in Great Britain. A 2010 survey showed that engineers working through agencies have rates 30% less than the average for those who work directly for clients. In addition, about 45% of engineers expect their business to do better. It suggests that as long as the engineers make the most of the skills they have by keeping up to date and staying flexible, they will be able to protect themselves from the said recession.
