- Abstract
The President of the Republic has attached great importance to Portugal's relations with the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries, which constitutes Lusophony. This concept invokes the idea of the Fifth Empire immortalized by Father António Vieira and remembered, among others, by Fernando Pessoa, Agostinho da Silva, Manuel Alegre and Natalia Correia. If in António Vieira the Fifth Empire is of religious order and with Portugal in the centre, the remaining authors defend a Fifth Cultural Empire, without emperors and without a defined centre. The Sports Sciences, by the union that sport generates in the Portuguese language space, will also have to recreate its Fifth Empire, bringing Universities, sport's institutions, such as the Olympic Committees, and others to study and disseminate the study of Portuguese sport.
