- Abstract
The World Health Organization (WHO) established in 1999, a definition which identifies factors of risk to Metabolic Syndrome (MS). The objective of this study was analyse the body mass index (BMI), the waist hip ratio (WHR), measure the arterial pressure and compare with literature. This study has a transversal delineating, by character description, with lifting characteristic and comparative delineating. Five hundred people partaked up of the study (n=500). They were men and women, between 13 to 81 years old, who were selected at random amongst trainees of physical activities residents in the city of Rio de Janeiro. It was verified the factor of risk BMI > 30 kg/m² in three age group of each sex. The presence of the factor of risk WHR > 0,85 for women and > 0,90 to men was verified in three women age group and in whole men age group. It was noticed that the factor of risk PAS ≥ 140 mm Hg appeared only in three women age group. At last, the factor of risk PAD ≥ 90 mm Hg was identified in three age group of each sex. Considering the results of this research, it is possible to conclude that just people who maintained the values of BMI, WHR and arterial pressure within the recommended limit had a long life.
