- Abstract
An experiment was carried out in the state of Trujillo, Venezuela. The objective was to evaluate the pathogenicity of Beauveria bassiana and Beauveria brongniartii (strain: LF-08 and LF-05, respectively) in field conditions in contrast with the common practice of using gas oil in poultry sheds against Musca domestica. Spores of B. bassiana and B. brongniartii fogged inside poultry sheds containing 7 chickens/m² at a dose of 9 x 107 conidias/ml in 15 L of water for each 1200 m², reduced the density of mature flies significantly. The percentage of population reduction was induced after fogging B. bassiana y B. brongniartii once a week for three weeks, in 80, 81, 100 and 24, 85 and 95%, respectively, with additional entomicide pressure of 94 and 80%, respectively, the three following weeks. Fogging with water and innocuous preservatives in neighboring sheds produced a density reduction value of 67, 94 and 61%, respectively, with additional entomicide pressure of 91%. In the gas oil tried sheds, a density of -55, 70 and -115 % were observed, with an additional entomicide pressure of 91%. Results show that the use of both entomopathogenic fungi is feasible for the M. domestic control in poultry sheds by applying them weekly for three weeks.
