- Title
Equus asinus.
- Abstract
The article offers information on Equus asinus or wild ass, including its diagnosis, general characteristics, distribution, fossil record, form and function, ontogeny and reproduction, behavior, genetics, and conservation status. The authors believe that the first domestication of wild ass, based on morphology, may have occurred either in Near East or based on historical evidence, in northeastern Egypt or northwestern Africa. However, its oldest specimen is claimed to be from Syria which was dated to 9,000 B.C. In addition, the large populations of feral Equus asinus exist in the western U.S.
