- Abstract
The article features recent studies about the increased risk of breast cancer among users of oral contraceptives. According to results from a case-control study conducted in the Netherlands, women who have used oral contraceptives for four or more years may be at increased risk of developing breast cancer before age 36. In contrast, a recent US study finds only modest associations between oral contraceptive use and breast cancer. Study participants all lived in the Seattle metropolitan area, and had been diagnosed with primary-stage breast cancer between 1983 and 1990.
