- Abstract
Our objective in this article is to analyze the construction of the subjectivity of some women academics in Chile and Colombia based on two axes: the neoliberalization of higher education, and the genderization of neoliberal academia. Our results are based on narrative interviews with 34 women academics from public universities in southern Chile and central Colombia. The findings allow us to point out that the two main narratives of subjectivation are: 1) productivity, where success is linked to a persevering and disciplined self, and lack of success is associated to non-intelligence and indiscipline-guilt; and 2) gender marks in academic work, with clear signs of impostor syndrome, and the idea of a de-gendered academy. Finally, we discuss the implications of the results for advancing feminisms within universities.
