- Abstract
The article reports on the scientific and public health initiatives and challenges faced by the countries affected by the pandemic swine flu virus in 2009. Mexico is preparing for the potential large wave of infection this winter and it is raising public awareness, standardizing timely diagnosis and treatment. The Australian government has ordered million doses of pandemic virus vaccine, thus if it need two doses per person. The virus is already transmitting in the city clusters in India and large number of people are turning up at designated testing facilities, so there is little room for monitoring mutations and reassortment.
