The article offers information on the historical competition of American astronomers in the U.S. It centers the rivalry of the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) and the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). GMT was developed by the Carnegie Observatories which is as big as six mirrors. However, the JWST, a 6.5 metre replacement to the Hubble Space Telescope which is launching in the orbit in 2013. Furthermore, JWST and the ground-based telescopes both aim to spot the first light, the 400 million years after the Big Bang started.
