- Abstract
During the survey of 62 potential bat hibernacula in Bosnia and Herzegovina in winter 2019/2020, a total of 29 surveyors have detected 13 bat species based on visual observations and found bone remains: Rhinolophus hipposideros, R. ferrumequinum, R. euryale, Myotis myotis, M. oxygnathus, M. mystacinus, M. capaccinii, Nyctalus noctula, Pipistrellus pygmaeus, Eptesicus serotinus, Plecotus macrolbullaris, Barbastella barbastellus and Miniopterus schreibersii. In addition, N. noctula, Tadarida teniotis as well as individuals from the P. kuhlii/nathusii group were identified based on the analysis of recorded echolocation signals. During this winter monitoring, the most frequently recorded species was R. hipposideros (40% of sites), followed by R. ferrumequinum (24% of sites), while the specimens of Mi. schreibersii were detected in the highest number, but on one surveyed location. Our study included first finding of P. pygmaeus in hibernacula and the first P. kuhlii/nathusii's echolocation calls during winter time.
