- Abstract
The fluorescence of winter and summer furs of ermine (Mustela erminea) taken from the dorsal and ventral parts of the animal body was studied using radiation with λex = 270, 300, 365, 395, and 410 nm. The fur from the ventral part was found to have brighter fluorescence than fur from the dorsal part. Two peaks dominated the fluorescence spectra with λex = 270 and 300 nm. Single-peak fluorescence spectra of winter and summer fur with λex = 365, 395, and 410 nm differed markedly from each other in the peak position and line width. Fluorescence spectra of dorsal and ventral fur were also different. The results could be used to identify ermine skins in collections and items in the absence of other signatures.
