- Abstract
Value chain analysis (VCA) is a widely used an approach to examine a sector comprehensively and to understand capitalist relations in chain. It is claimed that VCA approaches contribute to the development of countries in summary. Although discussions on VCA have been done for more than half a century in the world, especially many value chain studies done in Turkey are based on Micheal Porter model and arguments on VCA are not included. Yet, the debates made in the 1960s and 1970s before Micheal Porter, however in the 1990s and 2000s after Micheal Porter were influential in the emergence of today's debates of the VCA. Therefore, the relationship between Approche Filière, Commodity Chains, Global-Value Chain, Global Production Networks cannot be established historically, politically and economically in discussions of the VCA. This situation prevents evaluation of the process between discussions on VCA as a whole and consideration of the VCA studies more critically. In this study, discussions from the past to the present on VCA have been presented on a historical basis and evaluated in terms of political economy. Consequently, in the discussions on VCA, it is seen how the capitalist production relations work in a way.
