- Abstract
To characterize the women victims of sexual violence attended in an emergency unit, as well as the treatments performed. A descriptive study with a retrospective evaluation of women's medical records admitted with a history of sexual violence at a teaching hospital in the northwestern region of Paraná from January to December 2010. The project was approved by the ethics committee, opinion No. 025/2011. Duringthe study period 18 cases were attended: five children (27.7%), age varying from seven to elevenyears old; seven adolescents (38.8%), aged between 12 and 18 years old; And six adults (33.3%), aged between 19 and 37 years old. In all the cases the recommended biochemical tests were carried out, emergency contraception was performed in six cases (33.3%) and 15 (83.3%) received referral for outpatient follow-up, but no records of contact between the hospital was found, neitherwith the primary health units and nor the Family Health Strategy teams, for subsequent follow-up. The study verified aspects that need qualification regarding the epidemiological surveillance and the continuity of the attention to the cases. It is important to emphasize to all the institutions that make the notification, the need to improve the recorded information for timely disclosure in order to prevent violence.
