- Abstract
The article describes the process of creating a unified song canon for the dioceses in "Greater Germany" in the years 1942-1945/47. An expert commission was established to compile a canon of unified songs, taking into account the Austrian song tradition as well. Vinzenz Goller played an important role in the development of the Austrian unified songs. It is emphasized that music in Austria is characterized by a deeper emotional quality, while in northern Germany a certain simplicity and sobriety prevails. The Austrian dioceses have different opinions on the proposed canon, with some agreeing and others rejecting it. However, the Austrian bishops supported the statement of the Austrian representatives. The Fulda Bishops' Conference sought to create a unified canon of church songs for all dioceses in "Greater Germany," while Innsbruck continued to support the planned unified song canon.
