- Abstract
The article compares the effects of marital and parental statuses on three domains of well-being, namely, marital quality, parental satisfaction and global life satisfaction by examining three types of parents that are first-married biological parents, remarried biological parents and step parents. No significant difference was found among three types of parents with respect to marital satisfaction. Level of parental satisfaction was found to differ among the three groups of parents. Stepparents reported the lowest satisfaction with parenthood and first-married biological parents reported the highest. It was the difference between first-married biological parents and step-parents that contributed to overall significant difference in parenthood satisfaction. Researchers also found that neither marital status nor parental status differentially influenced global life satisfaction. Finally, these results show that marital and parental statuses are related to satisfaction with parenthood rather than with marital satisfaction and global well-being of parents.
