- Abstract
This article discusses capital investment in information technology (IT) among American corporations. Despite disappointing returns on IT investment, the author contends is still hold tremendous promise for reducing costs and increasing efficiency. In particular, it allows for decentralized decision-making as information is interpreted and relayed across the firm quickly and accurately. This reduces middle managers and permits small, entrepreneurial units to adjust quickly to changing market conditions.
