- Abstract
The Venetian contribution to the formation of the Buonaccorsi's collection enjoys a prominent position, particularly within the framework of the Gallery of Aeneid. Two generations of the noble family of the Marche region commissioned paintings and sculptures to masters from the geographical and cultural area of Veneto. Thanks to a new analysis of these ties, to bibliographic investigations and, above all, to important documentary discoveries it is possible to reconstruct a significant relationship between the brothers Raimondo and Filippo Buonaccorsi and the members of two eminent Venetian families connected to the Roman Curia, namely Aurelio Rezzonico and Monsignor Antonio Widmann. The latter, who was governor of the Marca from 1710 to 1717, shared with the Buonaccorsi similar cultural and artistic choices.
