AVALIAÇÃO DA INTENSIDADE DE INFECÇÃO POR MICROFILÁRIAS EM TRINCA-FERRO (SALTATOR SIMILIS).

- Abstract
Os Passeriformes, dentre eles o trinca-ferro (Saltator similis), podem ser acometidos por nematódeos filarídeos da família Onchocercidae, capazes de parasitar tecidos e cavidades das aves. São transmitidos na fase larvar (microfilária) através da picada do hospedeiro intermediário invertebrado que são os insetos e outros artrópodes hematófagos. A intensidade da infecção é classificada em: baixa (até 10 microfilárias/lâmina), média (11-20 microfilárias/lâmina) e alta (>20 microfilárias/lâmina). O objetivo do presente estudo foi quantificar e classificar a intensidade de infecção por filarídeos em trinca-ferros provenientes do tráfico ilegal e encaminhados à um Centro de Triagem de Animas Silvestres (CETAS). Foram amostrados esfregaços sanguíneos de 81 trinca-ferros para pesquisa e quantificação das microfilárias por microscopia óptica. Vinte e três trinca-ferros (28,4%) apresentaram microfilárias, variando de 2 a 605 microfilárias/esfregaço sanguíneo. Assim, 78,3% (18/23) apresentaram alta intensidade de infecção, 8,7% (2/23) média intensidade e 13,0% (3/23) baixa intensidade. O diagnóstico, no presente estudo, foi realizado através da visualização extracelular das microfilárias nos esfregaços sanguíneos, porém, geralmente, neste método observa-se menor frequência de positividade por ser pouco sensível quando comparado a outros métodos, como o diagnóstico molecular. O percentual observado de alta intensidade foi bastante distinto do relatado em literatura, onde observaram 14,3% em Passeriformes e 14,2% em soldadinho (Antilophia galeata). Essa variação pode ser esperada, pois a ocorrência de microfilárias depende de diversos fatores, como sexo, idade, espécie e localidade. Ademais, este método é capaz de detectar infecções quando há altos níveis de parasitemia. A baixa intensidade pode estar associada a ocorrência irregular das microfilárias devido a liberação intermitente na circulação sanguínea, podendo não refletir a real intensidade de infecção, sendo indicado a realização de esfregaços sanguíneos seriados. Apesar do esfregaço sanguíneo não ser capaz de refletir o real nível de infecção, é possível categorizar a intensidade da infecção a partir da quantificação das microfilárias, sendo uma vantagem quando comparado a outros métodos de diagnóstico que apenas definem se o animal é positivo ou negativo. Ademais, a microscopia direta é uma técnica simples, de baixo custo e amplamente disponível na rotina, podendo auxiliar no diagnóstico das microfilárias em aves.
