- Abstract
This article provides recommendations for the effective orientation of clinical fellows. Clinical fellowships, which follow residency training, require a different approach to program orientation. The article suggests that orientation should focus on three domains: cultural orientation, social orientation, and practical orientation. The recommendations include involving the right people in the planning process, avoiding information overload, acquainting the trainee to the environment, developing a "bootcamp" for practical skills, culturally and socially integrating the fellows, inspiring success and post-fellowship opportunities, and establishing ongoing mentorship. The article emphasizes the importance of effective orientation in reducing anxiety, alleviating burnout, and increasing confidence for clinical fellows.
