- Abstract
The article presents information on a study conducted by researcher Catherine Tinsley that suggests that organizational members from different cultures hold distinct preferences for how conflict should be resolved. According to Tinsley, there are three culturally determined strategies for resolving conflict. First, individuals in disagreement can look to high-ranking individuals for advice or for justification of their positions. Second, conflicting individuals can turn to the appropriate rule or regulation that would apply to the matter in dispute. Third, conflict participants may seek a solution that satisfies the underlying concerns of those involved by integrating their various self-interests.
