- Abstract
The negative impacts of energy obtained from fossil fuel on social welfare and on environment represent a critical issue in our days which could be solved by applying the principles of green economy. This new way of achieving the sustainable development requires a decrease in fossil fuel consumption and an increase of the energy savings. This paper aims to emphasize the evolution of fossil fuel market since 2002 and especially after 2010 when in Romania were taken some measures for reaching the objectives of green economy. In order to see their effects, this research presents a secondary data analysis of the main indicators of fossil fuel and electricity market for Romania, like production, consumption, prices. The results showed a small reduction in fossil fuel production and consumption after 2002, but an increase in the generation of electricity from coal and peat which covers the decrease of the electricity obtained from oil and natural gas. In conclusion, in order to achieve the objectives of green economy and of sustainable development, it should be taken more actions in the energy sector by promoting even more the reduction of fossil fuel production and consumption and also by promoting an efficient use of energy.
