- Abstract
The article "No earning money with illegal content!" presents an interview with Tabea Rößner, a member of the German Bundestag, about the regulation of large platform corporations. It emphasizes that in recent years, the big digital platforms have dominated the digital media system in Germany. The European regulatory packages Digital Services Act (DSA) and Digital Markets Act (DMA) are now mandatory for platform providers. Tabea Rößner is open to some proposals for regulating platforms, especially a ban on monetizing illegal content. However, she does not see the need to equate platforms with media in order to regulate them. The article discusses various proposals for regulating digital platforms and their impact on the market. It points out that government institutions have often been too slow to stop platform malpractices. There is also discussion about establishing a task force that would enable provisional regulations to protect user interests. The General Data Protection Regulation and antitrust law already provide legal leverage, but there is often a lack of cooperation between regulatory authorities. The Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act are intended to create basic rules for large platforms to ensure fairness in competition and better consumer rights. There is also discussion about the permeability of platforms and the impact of the new regulatory packages on the market positions of digital platforms.
