- Abstract
The article looks at a diary kept by novelist Noel Streatfeild during the London, England Blitz of 1940-1941. According to the author, Streatfeild had intended to publish the manuscript as a book entitled "London Under Fire". Emphasis is given to Streatfeild's social commentary, her use of irony, and her descriptions of her life as a novelist, warden, and volunteer during the bombardment. Details related to her relationships with her housekeeper and secretary are also presented. Topics discussed include the social research organization Mass Observation (MO), Streatfeild's concern for children, and the bombing of her home.
